Agreed. If there is a problem with the vacuum petcock, then it shouldn't happen on the prime position.
Mine died a couple of weeks ago on the freeway, until I switched to reserve, even though there was plenty of gas in the tank. Hasn't happened since. 65 MPH last night, and not a single miss.
My petcock hadn't been moved from the "on" position for 3 years. Maybe it's not a bad idea to run it in its three positions once in a while. I doubt that running it in the "prime" position for the course of a day would be any problem. Just remember to return it to the "on" position before parking her for the night.
